Facts

The township of Dunalley is on the Tasman Highway on the way to the most popular convict settlement of Port Arthur. Based on the fishing industry the man-made Denison Canal constructed in 1905 gives easy access to the east coast for vessels travelling from Hobart. A swing bridge allows vehicular trafiic over the canal. A memorial at nearby Blackman Bay marks the place where Abel Janszoon Tasman landed on 29 November 1642.

A day trip from Hobart taking some of the alternate roads to the main highway gives the traveller a round trip that reveals stunning coastal and rural views.
